Invoicing for contractors

Construction and trade jobs mix labour, materials, and staged payments. Plainvo lets you list each one clearly, apply a deposit so the balance due updates automatically, and add shipping or equipment as needed. Switch to a quote or estimate for bids, then to an invoice when the work is done — same tool, one click.

It is free and unlimited, runs entirely in your browser, and never uploads your client or pricing data. Save your business details once and reuse them across every project.

Common contractor line items

Frequently asked questions

How do I invoice progress or milestone payments on a long job?

Issue an invoice at each agreed stage, listing the milestone (for example Stage 2 – framing complete) and its amount. Record any deposit as amount already paid so the running balance stays accurate across the project.

Should materials be marked up on a contractor invoice?

Many contractors mark up materials to cover handling and procurement. You can either show the marked-up price on the materials line, or list materials at cost and add a separate handling or markup line, whichever your contract and client expect.

Can I turn my bid into an invoice once the job is approved?

Yes. Build the bid in quote or estimate mode, and when the client signs off, switch the document type to Invoice with one click. The line items carry over, so you bill exactly what you quoted without re-entering anything.
